One Step At A Time

With all the aspects that life brings, it can sometimes be overwhelming. Whether it’s work, family, or just being a friend it can be a challenging balance act at times.   However, if we consider setting goals with the mindset of “one step at a time”, we can simplify our life and obtain balance in all our roles as a person.

Life has a cycle. Life is relatively short in comparison to the life of the universe.   It is imperative we realize this at a very young age so that we can live life to the fullest.   Nowadays, the world has grown more aware of the need to be good citizens, and we have become more humanitarians.   Everywhere we turn there are charitable and non profits organizations helping in more ways than one, to help those less fortunate. Schools are also taking on a big part to help.  By implementing new ways of learning, providing more tools for students to learn, and also promoting many other programs to allow students to start discovering their potentials. The government has facilitated more and more programs as well. Helping mothers and just about anyone else go back to school with the intention they get a better chance to not only make a better living, but to be successful in life.

All these programs and all the help in the world doesn’t mean anything if we don’t do something about it. For example, how many books of self-help, or do-it-yourself do you see out there? If we don’t read them and put them into practice they have no value in our life.

We must start to make things happen for ourselves. We have the resources in most cases, and the mental and physical capability to do it. So why don’t we do it?

Sometimes it is as simple as us being confused. We don’t know how to go about it, and sometimes it is because it’s too overwhelming to go after we know we need to do to better ourselves.

As the New Year approaches, I urge you to stop and examine your life and start setting goals toward a better life. Remember it is one life we have. There is not another life here in this planet, or if you believe that there is, at least acknowledge this is your only shot in this phase of your live. You might as well make it the best you can!

As you go on living your life, stop and think. Think, what do you want to be? Or what is really filling your heart and mind? After you do that, set goals and share them with people who will hold you accountable and help you start moving, or tell you when you are moving away from your goals.

Write down your short and long-term goals and set time aside to revise them daily, and every day do something to move you forward in that direction.

Keep a journal of all your goals in progress and completed. Don’t disregard the list. Keep it as part of a journal to measure how long it took to complete each one of them.

Sometimes goals could be so big that when we look at them as a whole they overwhelm us. If we break them into small parts, then we can focus on accomplishing one step at a time and they become easy to accomplish.

Some of our goals might be to lose weight, or quit a bad habit. Spend more time with family, or make new friends. Remember – one step at the time, and before you know it you will accomplish your goals!

Don’t forget to come back and share your experiences with us! If you have other methods that have worked for you in the past, we want to hear about it!
