You can be an angel too! #NoKidHungry #teamNKHJuly 8, 2014 / byMaria Garcia / Categories : Blog
Our world is experimenting with new ways to help solve challenges some of us face. What we see now, was unimaginable back then. We can now communicate with people from all around the globe in real time, thanks to our advancement in technology. By networking with others, we can share ideas, establish new businesses and make differences in the world.
With information at our fingertips, people like you and I can share information on the web about things we are passionate about. We can bring awareness not only to issues in our community, but also to bigger problems worldwide.
We know most people are kind and good hearted, and want to contribute to society. We want to be good citizens, good neighbors, good brothers and sisters. We want to contribute to causes that touch our heart and soul.
A priority on my personal list, has been to help end childhood hunger. Why? Because I know it all too well. I faced it as a child growing up, and also as a single mother trying to feed my children. At times, it was very hard. I felt like I was failing my children. It was a struggle sometimes to put a roof over their head, and also have enough money for food, shoes, and clothing. At times, food was not in the budget. First came rent, water and electricity. If I had enough leftover, I would buy whatever food I could afford.
I am sharing my story with you because it is all too familiar, if not worse for many parents around the world. If you ask an average person what their food budget is- a lot of them do not know! Many people don’t have a budget, they use what they have leftover to buy what they can. They know they need to pay rent and utilities first, and hope they have enough leftover to buy food. A lot of them don’t know where they are going to find money for their next meal for their family. Did you know that 1 in 5 children in America struggle with hunger? (Source: nokidhungry.com)
Summer is here, and for some kids, this is not a joyful time of the year because it means they can’t look forward to their school lunch. Many kids are going to bed without their 3 required meals each day because their parents just can’t afford it. These children are starving, and some of them are sad because they don’t understand the circumstances. They see their friends going on vacations and making fun memories of their summer while they are at home wondering what their next meal will be.
Today, I come to you to bring awareness and encourage you to be involved in something worthy. Share your heart and your love by visiting www.nokidhungry.com and see how you can help make a difference in a child’s life. Like the old saying goes “full stomach, happy heart.”
Jesus taught us a good example when he stated in Acts 20:35 (ESV)
“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
